ONE puppy, ONE home environment, ONE on ONE training to raise ONE lifelong companion for ONE special family!

The best way to train a puppy to live in the home as a family member is to train the puppy IN a home as a family member! Tandem Run takes one special puppy at a time and does exactly that.

In a nutshell, CONCENTRATED & CONSISTENT. When a puppy enters this program, she gains honorary Bach family status until she is transferred to her own forever family. This means she sleeps in our bedroom, helps take care of our horses, lays under the table when we eat meals, travels to run errands in our truck, and learns to choose her toys over bedroom slippers!
• Housetraining – sleep 8 hours at night in a crate and reliably stays loose in the house while with someone. Ask to go out by sitting at the door and potty on command both on and off leash.
• Chewing – learn to distinguish between puppy toys and any other object!
• No Jumping on people or furniture.
• No biting on hands or clothing.
• Go to crate on command and be content for several hours at a time if people are away from the house.
• Leash training – walk politely on leash with distractions in a variety of situations.
• Wait on command at all doors and gates – only proceed when released.
• Obedience commands both on and off leash – come when called, sit, down and stay.
• Comfortable with children of all ages.
• Grooming – stand quietly for grooming and bathing.
• Travel – comfortable traveling in a crate for errands and longer trips up to 4 hours at a time.

We are not dog breeders so all puppies are either purchased to be trained and rehomed, or are purchased by an individual and come directly to us for at least one month of training before going home.
Puppies we purchase are all AKC registered so we can be confident of temperament, size and genetic history. Although we always recommend a purebred dog for those reasons, we will also take other puppies as long as they come to us at an early age so shaping can begin as they are developing and have the opportunity to learn only positive behaviors.

At this point, we only train one puppy at a time and our training is both concentrated and consistent!
I (Lauri) began training dogs professionally as a teenager (that would be mmm, 50 years ago…). I loved anything involving dogs and put 18 AKC titles on dogs of various breeds – and then I had kids, and then horses, and more horses… Now, many years later, I am again ready to start shaping puppies into good citizens, thoughtful companions and great family members.

Effective dog training is both consistent and concentrated. In the first month of training, our puppies have over 120 hours of one on one training in my home. This means I have a shadow most of the day and a foot warmer when I sit down.
Our investment in a Training Intensive puppy is, well, Intensive! We spend over 120 hours of training in the first month alone and we care a lot about where the puppy goes and work to ensure success with her new family.

The purchase price at the age of about four months is $16,000. All our puppies are AKC registered, have had genetic health testing done on the parents, are microchipped, parasite free and up to date on all vaccines. The price includes at least 4-6 hours of training in your home when the puppy is delivered to ensure successful adaptation to your family, home and routine. You will also have access to unlimited phone consultation for the first month to help you understand your new puppy. The price does not include the cost of transportation for both trainer and puppy as that can vary greatly depending on your location.
